Have you heard of flowers that look like birds? You’ll surely love some of the ones on our list if you haven’t grown them yet. All of these plants are flowers that look like birds, such as Moth Orchids, Parrot Flowers, Dove Orchids, Duck Orchids, Green Birdflowers, Red Bird Flowers, White Egret Orchids, and Birds of Paradise. Among them, the Parrot Flower resembles a bird very closely.
1- Paradise bird
A list that includes flowers that look like birds would not be complete if it didn’t include the very well-known Bird of Paradise plant, Strelitzia Reginae. Don’t confuse it with Strelitzia Nicolai or Giant White Bird of Paradise. The narrow-Leafed Bird of Paradise (Strelitzia Juncea) is a variety of Birds of Paradise.
South Africa is the home of this plant. Bird of Paradise gets its name from the large leaves and colorful blooms that resemble exotic birds.
2- The white egret flowers that look like birds
It is native to Russia, Korea, and Japan and is also known as the Fringed Orchid (Habenaria Radiata). I find this plant to be very elegant and beautiful. It was named after its resemblance to a flying white egret.
It is still worth checking out, even though it isn’t as popular as other flora out there. The White Egret Flower belongs to the Araceae family. Long vines grow from a middle crown of leaves on the long, slender stems of this plant.
3- Dove orchid flower
In its native Venezuela and Ecuador, the flower features a ‘hidden beauty’ inside its petals that resembles a carved dove. It is also one of the flowers that look like birds.
4- The Flying Duck Orchid flower
Australia is the home of the Flying Duck orchid, Caleana Major. A flying duck-like flower grows on it. Due to a symbiotic relationship with a fungus found only in eastern and southern Australia, this plant is native to Australia. This is the exact reason why this plant cannot be found on the market. Traveling to Australia is the only way to see this beautiful plant in person.
In spite of many efforts, this elegant yet unique plant has never been successfully grown outside of Australia.
5- Green bird flowers that look like birds
In Western Australia and parts of the Northern region of the country, the Green Bird Flower is native to the deserts, dunes, drainage lines, coastlands, and coastal regions of western Australia. It belongs to the legume family Fabaceae, which is a short-lived perennial. Several hummingbirds appear to be feeding on the flowers on this plant.
In reality, Crotalaria Cunninghamii is actually a shrub that reaches a height of about ten feet and a width of about six feet. Bird-like flowers appear on this plant in early summer. Pods will form under the flower. Bees and honeyeaters pollinate the Green Bird Flower primarily. Birds sometimes flock to the plant as well. Hummingbirds are particularly attracted to them. Nyangumarta Warrarn call it the Mangarr plant.
